Bkb: Opals now two from two
ATHENS, Aug 16 AAP - Australia's women's basketball team remains unbeaten in its Olympic
Games campaign after a 75-56 victory over Russia at the Helliniko Olympic Complex.
Small forward Penny Taylor spearheaded the Opals' win, with 26 points and nine rebounds
in a superb individual performance.
US-based Taylor scored 17 of her points in the first half to help Australia to a 36-33
lead at the break.
Taylor was just as unstoppable in the second half before fouling out late in the final term.
The Australians led by four points midway through the final term, before Opals star
Lauren Jackson broke the game open with three unanswered baskets to give Australia a match-winning
60-50 lead.
Jackson finished with 15 points for the match.
Ilona Korstin scored a team-high 12 points for Russia.
Australia has won its opening two matches at the games, also defeating Nigeria on Saturday.
The Opals' next match is against Japan on Wednesday.
