Fed: Cheap sausages make up for dear beer, petrol in Darwin
Darwin residents still pay the most for petrol, beer and milk -- but enjoy the cheapestsausages of any Australian capital city.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has released its quarterly survey of the averageprices for common household items in capital cities.
The lowest average price for a carton of full strength beer -- $30.62 -- is again inBrisbane, while Darwin has the highest average price at $32.80.
Brisbane also has the cheapest unleaded petrol at 79.8 cents per litre while Darwinhas the dearest -- 96.1 cents.
Meat tends to be more expensive in Perth, with residents paying $17 a kilo for T-bone steak.
And while sausages are cheapest in Darwin, serious carnivores should think about movingto Hobart.
The Apple Isle capital has the cheapest meat in seven of the 13 categories surveyed,including rump steak and T-bone steak.
Melbourne has the most expensive chocolate, but has the cheapest carton of low-alcohol beer.
